You don’t need to follow the latest trends to have a strong personal style – it’s actually quite the opposite.
How many times a week do you hear the word ‘trend’? Whether you’re reading a free newspaper on your morning commute, looking for house decorating ideas or holiday inspiration, you’ll come across trends, ‘must-haves’, or ‘the next big thing’. People are constantly on the lookout for new trends and want to follow them. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, but we strongly believe that trends should not be one’s main driver - instead it’s all about what you, as a unique individual, like, love and feel passionate about.
In personal and corporate styling, this is even more crucial. You don’t need to follow the latest trends to have a strong personal style – it’s actually quite the opposite. At pl_studio, we are always aware of what’s ‘hot’ and enjoy fashion predictions for the following season, but we have never based our wardrobe choices on these. Style is a reflection of your personality; it should be in line with who you are and with the message that you want to convey to the world.
If you want to be seen as the ‘trendy’ one, then go for it - fully embrace the latest trends and have fun with them. However, if that’s not your goal, rather than spending time chasing the season’s must-haves, try and focus on what works best for your body shape, on the most flattering colours for your skin tone, on what reflects who you really are and, most importantly, on what makes you smile.
It is when you find that balance and start wearing clothes that make you feel in harmony with yourself that you can finally enjoy the feeling of confidence that comes with it. At that point, you won’t see trends as something you need to follow, but as just another tool to help achieve a great unique personal style.
